IAU 234: Planetary Nebulae

Registration guide

There are a couple of factors you should consider in deciding when to register (and pay the fees) for the conference.

Visit to Mauna Kea Observatories

First, you need to decide if you want to visit the Mauna Kea Observatories. Please note that because of the high altitude (4200 meters), this trip is not available for anyone below the age of 16, and is not recommended for anyone with high blood pressure, breathing difficulties, or other medical conditions that may be aggravated by high altitude. Please check with your doctor before selecting this event.

There are two dates available for this trip: April 1 and 8, 2006, both Saturdays. If you wish to make this trip, check the "Conference Fee, Tours & Events" section of the online registration form to see if there are any seats available on your preferred trip. If seats are still available, make your travel and hotel reservations as soon as possible, and immediately thereafter, complete the registration form and make a payment that includes the registration fee and the Mauna Kea trip. You must pay for both the conference registration and the Mauna Kea trip to reserve your seat(s) on the Mauna Kea trip.

If you delay your payment, other people might pay first, and when you finally come back to the registration form, you might find that there are no more seats available. When that happens a new box will appear, offering a place in a waiting list (for which no payment is required, because there is no guarantee that a seat will be available).

It could very well happen that you want to register early to take the Mauna Kea trip, but you have not yet decided on the title or abstract of your contribution. This is not a problem. You can update that part of the form later on, by returning to the "confirmation page" accessible through the link sent to you in the confirmation email. There you will find a place where you can click to edit your personal and presentation information.

The deadline for poster abstracts is January 31st 2006; from all abstracts received by this date the SOC will select several for oral presentation. The final deadline for all abstracts is March 3rd 2006.

IAU Travel Support

The deadline for applications for IAU travel grants has passed.

Registration Fees

The registration fee (which according to IAU regulations includes a free copy of the symposium proceedings) will be $250 until February 15, and at least $350 thereafter.

Online Registration

When you are ready to register, please use the online registration website, which will open in a new browser window. Your registration and event fees may be charged to your credit card via PayPal.

After you complete the online registration you will receive an email that contains a record of the transaction and a unique link to your data in the registration database. Please remember to retain this email.

If you do not plan to visit Mauna Kea and are not applying for IAU travel support, then you only need to worry about the deadline for early registration, which is February 15, 2006. The late registration fee will be at least $100 more. We would like you to register as soon as you have confirmed that you can come to IAUS234, because it will help us to know as early as possible how many people are coming. Please help us by registering early. Refunds will be possible until March 3, 2006.
